Just the other day, the population cap for Ywain had been hit during a non-holiday weekend.  While this was great, as more people are signing on than before, this also raised some concerns.  There were some speculations as to what Mythic would do to get around this cap, such as setting up a new server (which comes with its own caveats), but nothing was formally announced, until just today.

BroBurn on the VN boards managed to elicit a response from some feedback he sent:

Hello Drew,
Thank you for sending feedback. The population cap restriction that is currently in place is temporary while we resolve a crash-related bug that occurs when we exceed the 4000 player mark. We have also discussed the possibility of opening another server, but we have to move forward very cautiously with that since we don’t want it to end up being under-populated as happened with old clusters (e.g. Killibury). As for the European servers, they will not be competing for space on Ywain. Details about their server arrangement will be announced soon, once a few more details are worked out on this end.

The developers are working as hard as they can to resolve the issues and are stretched to their capacity to tackle everything that needs attention. I apologize for the inconvenience and frustration this might be causing you, but know we are working on the problems.

Best,

Good news! The fact that it isn’t a hardware limitation means the liklihood of it getting fixed is that much higher.
